Paint brush (thin + small)
Glue
1 inch Pink + Purple Ribbon (glue gun to ends makes it easier to tie)
Using the clean and or dirty cup - watercolor your entire seashell one color.
Next, keep your paint brush out of the water and dab your brush onto the watercolor pallet right before drawing lines on the edges of your seashell shape for contrast. Continue with 4 straights lines on your seashell.
Set aside seashells to dry. Next, wipe clean and remove all attachment pieces.
Cut + lay out all your desired mermaid lei pieces (Star Fish, Seaweed, Flower) in front of your craft mat.
Find the center of your mermaid lei string and then place it at the center of your craft mat.
Stack card stock flower with tissue paper flower and hole punch the center.
Next, tie a knot with your gold ribbon 3-4x (one of top of the other) and slide it through the hole punch of your flower card stock + tissue paper.
Tie your Mermaid lei string to the main flower. Glue extra ribbon onto the back of your flower.
Next, cut your iridescent paper straws into 3s (about 2 inches long) and thread one on either side of the flower.
Place sticker beads on Star Fish shapes. Then hole punch center.
Glue together base of seaweed and hole punch.
Add on all your other mermaid lei pieces.
OPTIONAL: Glue gun thick ribbon to the ends of your mermaid lei (making it easier to tie and untie)
Wear and enjoy!
These were super fun for both my 6 year old and 9 year old to MAKE! A little more to it than just painting - yet still very doable for those elementary age kids.
My oldest also wanted me to tell all of you she recommends this craft for kids ages 3-10 years : )
Happy MAKING!
Warmly, Steph
